Cloth Diapering 101 Through the Flu

Just last week my son had the flu.  Now as you know, when a child has the flu,  they go through a lot of diapers. And it may be easier to use disposables.  But that can get very expensive.

But it is not impossible to use cloth.   Actually it should be very easy to use cloth diapers because when a child has diarrhea,  it rinses out very easily.   I was very comforted to know, that last week when my son had the flu,  I had cloth diapers to use.

Cloth Diapering 101 Can My Spouse Help?

I have found in my experience, that cloth diapering with a onesize diaper is no different than changing a disposable diaper.  The only difference may be the rinsing out process.

If your spouse doesn't like the idea of rinsing out the dirty diapers.  I suggest you either get one of the sprayers that hook on the toilet to make it easier for him or just rinse them yourself.

Any help that I can get I find very helpful.  My husband would change my son's diapers but wouldn't rinse them out. But especially now that I have 2 babies in diapers, I will take all the help I can get :)

Encourage your spouse to try it, with your help and guidance the first few times.  Let him see how easy it really is.

How many girls out there get help from their spouse changing cloth diapers?

Cloth Diapering 101 (new baby)

I have taken a few weeks off from blogging because I had a precious baby girl on Feb. 8th.  Now that we are home and beginning to find a routine, I can get back to blogging.

I have decided to use the prefolds on my new baby girl because as I said in one of my previous posts, I got rid of all my small cloth diapers.

I also like the prefolds when they are young because all you have to do is change the prefold and you can use the cover over and over.  It is also much easier on the laundry side of things.

Prefolds are very easy to wash and put away, especially since I am exclusively breastfeeding her.  As I so mentioned in an earlier post, breastfed baby's diapers are easy to wash. No need to rinse out.

Who else uses the prefolds? Please share your thoughts!

Cloth Diapering 101 Rinsing

I have read alot of question about is there a need to rinse cloth diapers before washing.

If you have a newborn that is strickly breastfed, there is no need to rinse poop or pee out of the diapers. It will wash out in the washing machine.  You just have to run them on a cold rinse cycle before you wash them.

Once your baby starts eating solid foods or drinking milk you will need to rinse the dirty diapers first before putting them in the washer.  A good suggestion is to buy a sprayer that hooks to your toilet that will spray it all out in the toilet.  It is less mess to worry about.

While you are storing these dirty diapers before washing,  it is best to store them in a dry space.  Some think its good to put them in a water soak, but this is just a breading ground for bacteria.  So I suggest a "wetbag" that is completely washable or something else that is dry storage.

I hope this helps answer some of the questions you may have about rinsing cloth diapers before washing.

Cloth Diapering 101

Today as I blog, I find myself wishing I would have saved all my small Cloth diapers instead of selling them off to a friend.  I didn't really plan on have any more children.  But God had other ideas.  I am expecting a little girl next month and now I am going to have to go back to looking at where to get some more small cloth diapers.

The good thing about it, is I have been through this once already and I know where to look and get the best deals.  I have found out that it's best to use online swap sites to find good deals if you don't mind buying used diapers. You can also go to stores that sell new one and ask if them have any used ones.

Cloth Diapering 101 General Tips

I am in hopes that my cloth diapering 101 blog is of help to you.

There are many questions that arise when you first consider using cloth diapers.  For me some of those questions were, Where can I buy them?  How much does each one cost?  Which is the best kind to buy? Is it really going to save me money?  Are they convenient to use? How do you wash them? How to you dry them? Can my spouse change them too?

I just want you to know that there are all very normal questions and as I continue to blog I hope to answer all of these questions for you.

I want your cloth diapering experience to be as good and pleasant as mine has been.  I really enjoy using them and I enjoy knowing that I am saving money when I use them.

Please don't get overwhelmed with the thought of using cloth diapers.  If you are anything like I was, you remember what your mom or your grandma had to use years ago.  Cloth diapers are nothing like they were years ago.  They are much more advanced and easy to use now than back then.

Cloth Diapering 101 Money Saver

As I continue with Cloth diapering 101, I would like to tell you how it has saved me money.

I Started out using disposible because alot of people had given many boxes of them.  And while I was using disposables I was saving up my money to buy cloth diapers.  I had to buy about 12-15 diapers to make sure I had enough.  I have to wash them every other day.

I do still use a disposable diaper at night, because I never bought any of the overnight cloth diapers.  But it is a money saver.  When I use cloth diapers during the day, I save about $10-15 a week.  When my son was younger I probably saved even more than that bacause he used more diapers a day.

It is really nice to have cloth diapers at home that I can use, because if I do run out of disposables I can always use the cloth diapers and don't have to worry about coming up with the $20 it cost to go out and buy a box of disposables.
